Long has the recollection of an awful Super Mario film vanished from our memories…and it seems it’s vanished from Nintendo’s as well.
According to a recent interview with Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima, the company will release a new movie in the next 2-3 years. The interview itself came from Japan’s Asahi Shimbun and was translated by Twitter user Kyle McLain.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has hinted at returning to the movies with their properties and characters. In February Shigeru Miyamoto also mentioned the return in an interview with Fortune,
“As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo’s role as an entertainment company, we’re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that,” he added. “And we’ll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future.”
Whether or not we will see Nintendo producing their own movies, much like Ubisoft is with Assassin’s Creed, remain to be seen but you can guarantee we’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops.
