Tom Hiddleston could be one step closer to James Bond after he was spotted at the at London’s Soho House on Wednesday, with 007 director Sam Mendes. Mendes has directed the last two Bond movies Skyfall and Spectre and will likely be directing the next and although the current Bond, Daniel Craig, hasn’t actually confirmed he’s left the role, there has been a lot of rumors suggesting he will not return for a fifth outing. Actor Mark Strong, a good friend of Daniels, made a comment about him not returning to the role. He told Shortlist magazine:
“Do you know what, I’d have loved to have played the villain in a Bond movie while Daniel was doing it because he’s a pal and that would have been great. But I think he’s come to the end of his Bond time and so it’s probably never going to happen, but that would have always been great.”
He added: ‘He has been [wonderful] and he’s loved it. But I think he feels like he’s mined it. He’s done what he wants with it. That point has come.’
This seems to suggest the role is now up for grabs and the fan favorite to fill the tuxedo is Mr. Hiddleston. Tom played down the rumors recently on the Graham Norton show saying:
“The thing is the position isn’t vacant as far as I am aware. No one has talked to me about it. I think the rumors have all come about because in the Night Manager I play a spy and people have made the link.”
