Roland Emmerich’s plans to revisit Stargate, the franchise he helped create when he directed the original film back in 1994. in an interview with Variety, Dean Devlin who wrote and produced the original movie spoke about the plans to resurrect Stargate and bring it back to the cinema.
He explained that he and Emmerich’s original plan was for Stargate to be a trilogy of movies but because of issues with the studios involved it instead became a TV series. Now the pair want to revisit the movie trilogy approach. He said:
“It’s not a story that can take place 20 years later. So the only way to really tell that trilogy is to go back from the beginning and start the story all over again”, Devlin said. “It was taken away from us, and it’s tough to have your children raised by other parents, even if they do a very good job. For us, it’s not putting down what has been done. It’s to let us finish telling our story”.
Stargate is not the fist movie Roland Emmerich has revisited. The sequel to Independence day is about to do the rounds 20 years after the original. You can catch it in cinemas from June 24th.
