A few weeks ago on the Out of The XFire podcast we spoke about a rumour regarding Sucker Punch. They are a Sony owned, 1st party studio known for the Infamous game series. The most recent of which, Infamous: Second Son, came out back in early 2014. So, they’ve had 2 years to get something cooking and that means it’s time to wildly speculate about what it might be.
The rumour we covered on OOTXF was half true… there was a Spider-man game in the works coming exclusively to PlayStation but it isn’t being developed Sucker Punch – It is Insomniac Games that has taken that bull by the horns instead. Where does that leave Sucker Punch? Well it could be another Infamous game but for the interests of excitement, lets think outside the box a little more.
An enticing idea would be for them to do an Iron Man game. The basic game mechanics are all in place, flying, firing blasts from the hands, punching, open world cityscape setting, destruction etc. I actually think to how Delsin glided using his powers and all the control came from moving his hands and feet… which is exactly like how Iron Man flys. The only issue with this idea is that it is so similar to what they’ve previously been doing – They may not want to do it.
Iron Man is a character we haven’t seen much of in Video Games, certainly not in the AAA space in the way Spider-man was so popular when I was growing up back in the PS1 and PS2 eras. Thanks to Marvels Cinematic Universe Iron Man is a well known and well loved character in the mainstream. With it looking likely that Robert Downey Jr taking more of a backseat role in future films, due to his age and the stunts etc being so strenuous, a game would help scratch that Iron Man itch we’ll all be missing from the films.
So, no Iron Man 4 but an awesome AAA game by one talented team with a track record of awesome games backing them up… I’d take that trade.
What about you readers? Would you? Or would you rather see Sucker Punch work on something else? Let me know in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter @adamthomas1994.
