Ubisoft are heading to the cinema and bringing many of their popular IPs with them. The first of which, ‘Assassin’s Creed’, opens at the end of the year and given the general consensus that video game adaptation tend to be steaming piles of disappointment you may think Ubisoft are a little worried about how the film will perform. Well Alain Corre, Ubisofts European boss, claims they have little expectation for the movie actually making much money and claiming the movie is being made for a different reason.
In a conversation with MCV Corre said:
“We are not going to earn a lot of money from it, It is a lot more a marketing thing, it is also good for the image of the brand. Although we will make some money, it is not the purpose of this movie. The purpose is to bring ‘Assassin’s Creed’ to more people.”
There is no doubt that the movie will open the franchise up to a wider audience but Assassins creed inst exactly a little known franchise in Itself. Still the games will no doubt see a boost in sales regardless of whether the movie is a hit or not. Assassins Creed opens on December 21st.
